About YACO

A youth-centered organization built around confidence, identity, and future readiness.

YACO community workshop

The Young Afro Canadian Organization is committed to supporting the growth, development, and empowerment of young people.

YACO creates safe, structured, and culturally grounded spaces where youth feel seen, supported, and equipped to thrive. Through mentorship, workshops, school partnerships, community engagement, and opportunity exposure, we help youth develop the confidence, discipline, and direction they need for long-term success.

Our work is rooted in consistency, accountability, leadership development, opportunity, exposure, and community representation.

Mission & Vision

What drives the work, and where it leads.

Our Mission

YACO exists to support and develop Black youth through consistent mentorship, leadership development, community-based programming, and meaningful exposure to opportunity.

Our Vision

Our vision is to see Black youth confidently equipped, connected, and empowered to lead in school, in community, and in life.

Through our work with students, schools, families, and community partners, YACO is committed to building confidence, accountability, direction, and long-term success.

Why YACO Exists

Young people need more than encouragement. They need structure, guidance, and opportunity.

Many young people are navigating school, identity, community, career questions, family expectations, and the pressure to figure out their future.

YACO exists to walk alongside them.

We provide mentorship, practical learning, leadership support, and community-rooted programming that helps youth build a stronger sense of identity and a clearer path forward.

YACO does not replace schools, families, counsellors, social workers, or licensed professionals. Our role is to complement those supports by providing youth development programming rooted in mentorship, exposure, guidance, opportunity, and community-based support.

Our Values

The standards behind the work.

01

Consistency

We believe young people need reliable support, not occasional attention.

02

Accountability

We hold ourselves to high standards in how we serve youth, work with schools, and build trust.

03

Leadership Development

We help youth grow as leaders in school, community, work, and life.

04

Opportunity & Exposure

We create access to experiences, relationships, and pathways that help youth see what is possible.

05

Community Representation

We believe youth should feel seen, supported, and represented in the spaces built for their growth.

A Safe, Structured Approach

Youth development requires care, professionalism, and accountability.

Safe, respectful, and professionally managed environments — every time.

YACO is committed to creating safe, respectful, and professionally managed environments where students can participate, learn, and engage with confidence.

Our work is guided by clear expectations for student safety, supervision, staff conduct, privacy, consent, media use, communication, and school partnership responsibilities.

YACO representatives are expected to maintain professional boundaries, communicate respectfully, follow approved procedures, and support environments where youth feel protected, represented, and valued.

Leadership

Guided by leadership, board oversight, and community responsibility.

YACO's work is supported by leadership and board oversight committed to youth safety, organizational accountability, school partnership trust, and responsible growth.

As the organization grows, YACO is committed to maintaining clear policies, professional standards, structured programming, and responsible governance practices.
